Dear prospective students,

We are delighted that you are interested in the Master's in Innopreneurship. The master’s programme has always been very successful, but unfortunately had to be discontinued in its original form. After extensive discussions with the University of Duisburg-Essen, we have now developed the course further and will set it up as a new Master's programme at the newly founded Faculty of Computer Science. We are retaining the particular strengths of the old programme - high orientation towards application, small cohorts, close connection to the innovation ecosystem - and expanding them with a stronger focus on sustainability and new technologies.

The new course will be offered as a Master of Science in “Sustainable Innopreneurship”.

Such a process usually takes a long time and follows an intensive evaluation procedure that ensures the high quality of courses offered at UDE.

At present, we cannot yet guarantee that it will be possible to start studying in the winter semester 2024/25, as this evaluation process has not yet been fully completed. However, we are doing everything we can to make it possible for students to start their studies in the winter semester of this year. If the evaluation can be completed promptly, the Master's in Sustainable Innopreneurship will start in October 2024/25. The application period is expected to start in June or July.
Please add your name to our list of interested parties so that we can keep you up to date.

You will receive updates via email or new information on an updated soon.

Via the mailing list, we will gladly provide you with the prospective course of studies (subject to possible changes) and a brief description of the new Master's program Sustainable Innopreneurship.

We look forward to starting this new chapter in entrepreneurship education at UDE together with you.

Warm regards
Chair of SUST - Information Systems and Sustainable Supply Chain Management

Student founders get their own GPU cluster to build AI prototypes https://www.sust.wiwi.uni-due.de//news/news/student-founders-get-their-own-gpu-cluster-to-build-ai-prototypes-23911/?no_cache=1 Unlock your AI potential with our GPU cluster at Place Beyond Bytes - your gateway to transforming bold ideas into real-world solutions as a student entrepreneur. We have been ambitious in supporting aspiring digital entrepreneurs at the university. I believe this is a vital way to solve the big challenges of our time with cutting-edge tech. Solving such issues is major reason, why we founded the Place Beyond Bytes last year.

Among the many challenges that entrepreneurs face with AI products, compute resources and the skills to use them are a particular bottleneck that hold students back.

I see a lot of computer science and information systems students trying to train #machinelearning models on their laptops, or using all AWS/GCloud credits that they can get a hand on. With the new GPU cluster, we provide any student who becomes a member of Place Beyond Bytes or who attends our ML/AI classes with the compute resources necessary to process their complex models, and work on innovative prototypes that solve important problems.

--- What is a GPU cluster? ---
A GPU cluster combines multiple Graphical Processing Units that accelerate the development of AI products, enabling students to efficiently process large datasets and train complex models quickly. This setup is crucial for advanced AI projects, offering the computational power necessary for rapid innovation and experimentation.

EHDS4all: Collaborative Value Creation with Health Data https://www.sust.wiwi.uni-due.de//news/news/ehds4all-collaborative-value-creation-with-health-data-23916/?no_cache=1 We are happy to lead the a BMBF consortium, funded with 2.5m EUR, that jointly supports SMEs and start-ups in creating uses cases for European Health Data Spaces. EHDS4ALL is a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and has a project volume of overall 3m EUR (2.5m funding). Together with more than ten partners, we develop an educational service that enables SMEs to establish business models, produces and services in the European Health Data Spaces (EHDS).  methodically supported and based on public data securely and independently.

European Health Data Spaces provide a uniform European regulation for the secondary use of health data by 2025. The introduction of the EHDS will result in new rules in the form of regulations and laws for data access, data availability, data use, data protection, standards and networking in the healthcare sector.

The EHDS4ALL project develops a platform-based digital toolkit and a further education program that supports SMEs and start-ups in navigating these new regulatory, technologica, and organizational environments, and form a new innovation ecosystem.

Extended Generativity Theory on Digital Platforms https://www.sust.wiwi.uni-due.de//news/news/extended-generativity-theory-on-digital-platforms-23279/?no_cache=1 New publication in Information Systems Research We always thought that digital platforms are ever-changing, ever-growing. We simply ask what is growing: the userbase, the product, or the ecosystem? What we found was that this lets us question the ‘ever’.

In our recent article, published in Information Systems Research, we suggest an Extended Generativity Theory on Digital Platforms. This theory cautions a long-held assumption that generativity in platforms leads to unbounded growth. Following six large transaction platforms over 8 years, we study how platforms become generative through expansion of product and ecosystem boundaries in order to gain user growth. We were surprised to see that that these boundaries ebb and flow towards a dynamic equilibrium.

I am very happy to see this article finally being published. We started engaging with some of the material back in 2013, when I heard Peter Wolter presenting the eye opening changes at OTTO - a former catalog business becoming one of Europe's largest transaction platforms. A couple of years in and several conversations with the fantastic team - DanielAbayomiMatthias, and Kai - we are happy to open up the conversation around generativity and platforms to the broader IS and management community.

Special thanks to Ola Henfridsson and Robert Wayne Gregory and the anonymous reviewers for their continuous support and thought-provoking input throughout the process!

Abstract:

The assumption that generativity engenders unbounded growth has acquired an almost taken-for-granted position in information systems and management literature. Against this premise, we examine the relationship between generativity and user base growth in the context of a digital platform. To do this, we synthesize the literature on gener-ativity into two views, social interaction (expansion of ecosystem boundaries) and product view (expansion of product boundaries), that jointly and individually relate to user base growth. Both views help us explain how opening a platform relates to the emergence and resolution of conflicting expectations in a platform ecosystem that result in new functions and expanded use. We adopt a panel vector autoregressive approach combining data from six large transaction platforms that engaged with open-source developer communities. We found that the dominant narrative of generativity engendering growth, although generally supported by our analysis, obscures the fact that the inverse is also true; that is, growth can lead to expansion of product boundaries (inverse generativity) and that generativity can be bounded; that is, growth can stabilize ecosystem boundaries (bounded generativity). Against this background, we propose an extended generativity theory that presents generativity and growth in an integrative view and raises awareness about the limitations of the “unbounded growth” claim. We conclude that there is value in separating the two views of generativity conceptually and analytically, along with their relationship to user base growth, and we call for research on the pathways through which generativity produces growth.
